English Sabbath School History ... |

Back in 1992, our teacher, Mo Sena, had just returned from the US and had gone to visit the worship services at the SDA Central Church in the district of Liberdade in São Paulo. Talk about excitement! When reading the church bulletin that Sabbath Day, he saw a little note: “English Sabbath School – every Sabbath at 9am”.
Immediately Mo joined the little group where he met his lovely wife, Sandra. After their wedding in 1995 they decided to move to a church closer to their home in the southern part of the city. |

After visiting one church that had yet touched them, they visited the campus of the São Paulo Adventist University. The church was vibrant and surrounded by trees, flowers and singing birds, something hard to find in a jungle made of stone, like São Paulo. Asking around, Mo found out that there was no English Sabbath School operating on campus.
Having been given the green light by the church’s board, in 1996 the English Sabbath School – Unasp – Campus 1 – started its activities with five people. Word-of-mouth spread the news and soon we had 70 to 100 people joining us in worship every Sabbath.
“The secret of our growth is the presence of good music and volunteers willing to give their time, money and other gifts to the Lord”, Mo says. “What we do is not for material gain but to attract people to the Lord through the use of today’s global language”. Mo concluded. |
